A strong music release campaign is more than a cover image and one announcement post. Artists now need a coordinated set of visual assets that can introduce the record, build anticipation, support release day, extend the campaign and keep the music visible across multiple platforms.
This guide explains what artists, managers and labels in Nigeria should plan before producing content for a single, EP or album rollout.
1. Define the campaign objective
Decide whether the priority is awareness, pre-saves, streaming, video views, press coverage, ticket sales, community growth or a combination of these. The campaign should be built around the action you want audiences to take.
2. Build one visual world for the release
Photography, artwork, video, typography, colour, wardrobe and styling should feel connected. A coordinated release era is easier to recognize and stronger than a collection of unrelated posts.
3. Produce content before the release date
Do not wait until release week to begin creating assets. Produce enough material in advance to support pre-release teasing, launch-day communication and post-release storytelling.
4. Create multiple teaser formats
Plan short vertical teasers, lyric moments, performance clips, visual loops, countdown content and artwork reveals. Different formats give the campaign more opportunities to capture attention without repeating the same post.
5. Capture strong artist photography
Press images, profile photos, editorial frames and campaign portraits give media outlets, playlists, blogs and social teams usable material throughout the rollout.
6. Produce vertical-first video assets
Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and mobile-first placements often need 9:16 content. Plan these during production instead of cropping every asset after the fact.
7. Create horizontal assets where they still matter
YouTube, websites, press pages, television screens and some advertising placements may require 16:9 or landscape formats. A professional campaign should plan both orientations where useful.
8. Build thumbnails and platform-specific crops
One image rarely works perfectly everywhere. Prepare square, portrait, landscape and thumbnail-safe versions so titles, faces and key artwork remain readable across platforms.
9. Use behind-the-scenes content strategically
BTS footage can humanize the campaign, reveal process and extend the life of a production day. Capture studio moments, styling, rehearsals, set preparation and candid interactions without making the campaign feel unfinished.
10. Sequence content around the release journey
Map content into phases such as announcement, anticipation, release day, reaction, explanation, performance, behind-the-scenes and long-tail discovery. The campaign should continue after the first 24 hours.
11. Coordinate press and publicity assets
Prepare approved press photos, short artist bios, artwork, release information and media-ready files so journalists and partners do not have to request basic materials individually.
12. Build a reusable campaign library
A well-planned production day should generate enough visual material for social media, streaming profiles, websites, email, press, advertising, tour announcements and future retrospective content.
